Set of goals for the communicattions committee

I would like to propose the following set of guiding principles and goals for the communications committee, to be modified and/or approved by the Working Group.

1 Guiding device restrictions and requirements
               1.1            Adapter is battery-agnostic
Device remains in control
               1.2            Adapter is power-source agnostic
Protocol should be independent of the source of power being used.
1.3            No shock hazard, no overload hazard, power source protects self and device
Isolation requirements and current limiting requirements should be the purview of the power committee
1.4            Consider costs of UPAMD-mandated communication components
                          1.4.1             Connectors
                          1.4.2             Wiring
                          1.4.3             Circuitry

2 Define communications requirements
               2.1
Possible UPAMD environment topologies
Present and future

3 Define physical layer
3.1            Robust system with respect to EMI, EMC, ESD
3.2 KISS: Keep costs under control
3.3 Reuse existing standards if possible.
3.4 Define number of wires required for power and communications.

4 Define communications protocol

5 Define software interfaces

Optional external indicator interface
How much of this is the purview of the communications committee?
This would only affect communications committee deliberations if we need to account for indicators (e.g., LEDs) in the cable.

Thanks,
