Dear All, A colleague has pointed me in the direction of the Smart Battery standard and the related System Management Bus (see http://www.sbs-forum.org/). In short, a 'Smart Battery' and compatible charger appear to provide much, if not all, of the functionality that is under discussion. The System Management Bus (or maybe the related Power Management Bus - http://pmbus.org/) may provide similar coverage for non-battery devices. To ask a provocative question: Why can't UPAMD simply specify the use of Smart Batteries and an appropriate connector? At least, these standards should probably appear in our set of references. (I know this may be jumping ahead, as the UPAMD goals are not entirely defined yet, but I'm on holiday for the next two weeks and didn't want to forget to ask). Best regards, Rob --
