主题: RE: Nov 22 UPAMD meeting and
decisions
ZHANG
Xia, The
connector meeting would normally be Thursday (tomorrow) but as that is
Thanksgiving day here in the US, there would not be much, if any,
attendance. Mark has proposed the meeting, moving it to next
Wednesday at the 5PM PST time slot. He
should be sending out a message to that effect. Respectfully; Bob
Davis Chair

主题: Nov 22 UPAMD
meeting and decisions UPAMD, The progress
of the draft for UPAMD/P1823 has been slowed as communication issues within the
system have been worked on. As the working subcommittees have been
attended by fewer people, I would like to bring this forward to the whole group
for discussion of direction and getting the sense of the working group in moving
forward. The only
power debate issue that needs to be decided is what to do if the communication
fails between the source and the sink. There have been two proposals
forwarded and we need to decide on one. NOTE: If the communications
signals are separated, no sink termination seen, the power will be immediately
terminated. Loss of communications indicate that one of the communicating
elements has ceased to operate properly. 1.
First proposal on loss of
communications with the sink was to revert to deliver the 21V @ 1A
uncommunicative sink power level. This was also called the fall back/limp along
power level. It was felt that most devices could lower their power to this
level and limp along until the communication was restored or the system
restarted. 2.
The second proposal
discussed was that if communications was lost, but connectivity of the
communication wires retained, the power should stay at the last agreed upon
setting. Deciding this
issue will allow the state diagrams to be cleaned up. The
communications level issue has consumed far more time and effort.
Three levels of communications have been discussed, these
include: 1.
Basic power level setting
directly between source and sink. This would also include the product
identification registers. This capability has been in the draft for many months
and reviewed several times. 2.
General communication
between multiple members of a UPAMD power system. This includes the
ability to send messages which would allow for data transfer among directly and
indirectly attached devices. Discovery is possible with this capability. General
system monitoring would use this capability. 3.
Extended command and
control of the system by an active system monitor. Extended
capability for command of the elements of the system require authentication and
trust systems beyond what can be done in the first UPAMD standard. This
may be appropriate for an P1823.1 standard or a revision of the base P1823/UPAMD
standard in the future. Opinion are solicited on the need for this capability in
the first standard. Basic
signaling between the source and sink for power control and identification have
been in the draft for some time and have been repeatedly visited to assure
information exchange and smart local power control. This should work as
designed, subject to significant review of the working
group. The proposed
inclusion of a general communications scheme has been worked on for the last
several months and appears to be very close to complete, probably in the next
two weeks or so. This capability supports: 1.
Ability to deliver long,
multiple 8 byte, messages from one element of the system to
another. 2.
Discovery of devices in
the system. 3.
Determination of overall
system state. 4.
This system capability
would need to be in place for future versions of the UPAMD system to add
features. 5.
This requires no
additional hardware costs. Please
comment to the group on the desire for this capability. The agenda
for tomorrow’s meeting follows: Respectfully; Bob Davis Chair UPAMD/P1823 bobd@xxxxxxxx 408.353.5990 desk 408.857.1273 cell bob.davis.scsi.com Skype Universal Power
