UPAMD,

Please vote on the following proposal:

Removal of the Restricted status bit from the CAN headers and elsewhere it appears and replace it with a RFU (Reserved for Future Use) bit to be defined as needed.

Vote  YES or NO to UPAMD-vote@xxxxxxxx.

Background;

When we adopted the low energy connect and disconnect direction, it appeared possible to enable specialty devices that would require additional certification to state that they were restricted and initiate a dialog with the source to determine if the qualifications would be met.  Attempting to implement this strategy has failed as not enough information is available to make a decision with respect to medical or hazardous environments.

To simplify the logic and press forward with the standard, it appears to be best to reallocate these bit to a reserved status.

Based on the IEC/UL and similar requirements for such devices, each sink will need to be designed with the isolation, and other restrictions, needed to meet its target market.  UPAMD should not attempt to define anything in this area.  The UPAMD low energy connect and disconnect will remain as a basic element of the standard.

Please vote before the next working group meeting on 28 February.

Respectfully;

Bob Davis
