Motions on comparisons
P-1788:
I note that there are three active motions on comparisons, two
of which give an explicit list of comparison operators:
1. Motion 13.04 gives seven comparison operators
2. Motion 21, which I have withheld for a day or two, gives
13 comparison operators.
3. Motion 20 gives a theoretical framework for comparisons, and
some general operations on any comparisons (although I do not
fully grasp the implications at present).
In addition, Arnold Neumaier has been strongly advocating a set
of only three comparisons, but no-one has submitted a motion
to that effect yet.
Since, in my opinion, Motion 13.04 and Motion 21 give different
sets of comparison operators, I will not start voting on motion 21
until Motion 13 finishes. If both motions eventually succeed,
I will assume Motion 21 supersedes Motion 13.04.
If people prefer Arnold's simple set of three comparisons,
someone should make a motion that only these three comparisons
be included.
If anyone objects to this order of business, please post your
objection (or suggestion) either to the list or to me privately.
