Sorting out issues and messages Re: Fwd: P1788: PLEASE VOTE
All,
I append my reply to Jean-Pierre, which I initially sent privately to George and Jean-Pierre ,
since the message seemed to be posted from George privately to me. Everyone, please
take note of my suggestion in the last paragraph concerning subject lines and
message content. Also, Juergen's list of motions itself is a reasonable overall summary.
Do we really want or need something beyond the list archives, listed as threads, and
the list of motions?

Jean-Pierre (and George FYI),
I sympathize with you. I have been spending significant time reading the
messages, and am not certain about everything.
Apparently, you have two difficulties
(1) posting to the mailing list, and
(2) sorting out all the messages you are receiving.
Problem (1) is probably the easiest to solve. Try going to
http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/
At the bottom of that page are two links. Click on the link
IEEE STDS-1788@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx page (http://listserv.ieee.org/cgi-bin/wa?A0=stds-1788)
and, from there, click on the "subscribe or unsubscribe" link on the right. Nathalie
and I will receive your request, and we'll approve it. (The idea is to subscribe
your new email address. I think you can also use the same procedure to unsubscribe
your old email address.)
Problem (2) is perhaps more difficult, since codifying arguments beyond the motions
may take someone significantly more work. However, the bottom link on the
http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/ web page is to the mailing list archives
(http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/email/). These archives can be listed
either by date or by thread. Listing them by thread may help you. In the mean
time, I'll post a request for people to make the subject line correspond to
the content, so this automatic listing by thread is more meaningful.
Best regards,
Baker

At this point I am completely overwhelmed by all the messages about standard, decoration and so on. Although I am both a developper and end-user of intervals I have not been able to sort out clear trends and evaluate their consequences especially in view of the realistic applications I am looking at. I feel that at this point that we are unable to vote on any motion because the advantages and drawbacks are not clearly presented. I propose that we postpone the vote until all arguments for and against any motion are presented in a single web page so that voter may look at each argument and decide in consequence.

I have much sympathy for that request. I do not care for the work of manually presenting "all arguments for and against any motion are presented in a single web page."
Is a wiki a good answer? Then, the people making the arguments present their own arguments. It could get rather chaotic, but it might be an improvement.
What do people think? Especially web-master Juergen?
