I think Baker has an excellent point. If we follow his idea, we can have a standard fast (or at least on time).

Maybe we should make it an official motion, something like

"Our idea of selecting things to be standardized is to standardize things
that are already well-understood, and for which there will
be a universal benefit for everyone to be doing it the
same way."

as an idea to be included in the preamble of the future standard.

P.S. This does not mean, of course, that we should not continue discussing not-so-well-understood topics as well. Such discussions are needed to make sure that our standard does not inadvertently prevent us from adding important things in the future. It is great that we have all these exciting and interesting discussions, we all learn a lot, and many things are progressed. For example, if it turns out that a certain part of the standard draft impedes an efficient implementation of Kaucher arithmetic, we should try our best to re-word this part.

It is my personal opinion that we should standardize things
that are already well-understood and for which there will
be a universal benefit for everyone to be doing it the
same way.
