Thank you for your specific comments on wording, and the general point above. Several people checked the wording of the text under vote for this motion, yet we didn't pick up these defects.
I do ask all working group members to be on the lookout for inconsistencies, circular references, and so on, whether of wording or of substantive content.
This is especially important for the next draft, currently called 7.0, to be circulated shortly. It has two main aims:
(1)
Move close to the structure of a standard require by IEEE's style manual. This seemed to necessitate some re-ordering at the start:
- The current Draft 6.3 §1 "Overview" remains as Draft 7.0 §1 "Overview".
- However Draft 6.3 §2 "Ideas underlying the standard" is moved into
the non-normative Frontmatter to become Draft 7.0 "Introduction".
So it now precedes "Overview". We need to ensure it is independent
of the "Overview" material, I have had comments on that from people
who had a preliminary draft.
(2)
Present the main features of the whole set-based flavor. Namely
- It contains all the Frontmatter and Chapter 1 that currently exists. I hope Christian will be able to include at least a preliminary version of "Conformance requirements" (now Draft 7.0 §8). If I understand correctly what he is doing, this will be a systematic list of references to every (sub)clause containing a "shall" or "should", with brief explanatory text for each one.
- It also contains full text of the set-based flavor's Levels 1 and 2. This includes decorations at Level 2, and I/O.
This Draft 7.0 text runs to about 60 pages. Initially it is for examination, removing inconsistencies, identifying normative stuff that I put in "on my whim" but has never been voted on, etc. I hope discussion by P1788 officers will lead to an efficient plan for voting on needed revisions, and then on the thus revised text as standard text.
Of normative text, little remains -- I think there is some at Level 3, and we may even throw that out. None at Level 4. There is plenty of non-normative to go in Annexes, though.
