More Re: Implementing the standard
Walter et al,
There were two more steps in MyProject I neglected to
transcribe into my previous email (appended). After
you have checked the box "Standard for Interval Arithmetic (Simplified),
you need to:
--------------------------------------------------------------
4. Click “CONTINUE”
5. Confirm your interest area and enter your affiliation information.
o Select from the list or type in your company/organization.
6. Click “CONTINUE”

Walter,
The IEEE 1788 standard is now copyrighted, and
is not generally distributable except to people who
participated in its development. However, as I mentioned
privately to you earlier, you really want the
"simplified standard" that is currently
formally under development. You
can thus have access to that draft if you are a
member of the working group.
Instructions for becoming a member of the working group
are in the MyProject user guide, at:
https://mentor.ieee.org/etools_documentation/dcn/11/etools_documentation-11-0014-MYPR-myproject-user-guide.pdf
In particular, if you do not already have an IEEE account,
you need to do the following (Section 2.1 of the User Guide):
----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Go to https://development.standards.ieee.org/my-site
2. Enter your IEEE Account username/email and password and click “LOGIN”.
If you do not have an IEEE web account, you can create one by
clicking on the “Need an IEE Account?” link.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Once you are logged in, you do the following (Section 3.1
of the MyProject guide):
----------------------------------------------------------------
1. On the myProjectTM Home Screen, select “Manage Activity Profile”.
2. On the “Manage Activity Profile” Page, scroll down to the Society or
SCC you
are interested in and expand the tree by clicking the "+" sign to view
Sponsors, Working Groups, and Projects.
(OUR SOCIETY IS THE "IEEE Computer Society" After expanding
"IEEE Computer Society", you should expand "Microprocessor Standards
Committee", then expand "Working Group for Interval Arithmetic",
and be sure to check "Standard for Interval Arithmetic (Simplified).
You can also check the entire "Working Group for Interval Arithmetic"
group if it will let you.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I will do the rest.
Once you have confirmed that you have done that, I will also
send you the password to the private area of the working
group, where certain communications and the draft standard
are posted. Please inform me if you have any problems with
the process.
Best regards,
Baker

Dear P1788,
I am implementing (yet another...) C++ library
for interval arithmetic in order to experiment with
some ideas and compare alternative ways of
implementing the basic operations (like
multiplication)
At this point, the library is not ready for release,
and I am not sure if it will ever go beyond my
own experiments. However, since I am already
working at it, I would like to try to make it conformant
to the standard.
I have only an old draft of P1788. How can I obtain
the most recent (and official) version of the
standard?
I am mostly interested in what is in Appendix C
in my old draft, which describes a simplified
implementation of set based intervals build
on IEEE 754 floating point numbers.

walter.
