RE: Draft: P1788.1 Standard for Interval Arithmetic (Simplified)

Reads very smoothly, many thanks, looks good.

Minor suggestion: it may not be a bad idea, in addition to Section 8 that mentions features which are required for the full standard but not here, to place – maybe in an appendix – a list of things which are present in the full standard but not here, so that those who read this text and who are curious about the full standard will know what to look for in the text of the full standard

Minor things: p. 6, line 1, has a colon after the defined word “octet”; I think it would be great to add such colons after each defined word on pp. 4-6, this will make the text more readable (on the other hand, if IEEE rules prohibit the use of colon then the colon on line 1 p. 6 should be deleted).

p. 5, line 12: no need for a period before the closing parenthesis

p. 21, line 24: this line starts with a comma, which is not right, move < to this line from the previous one.

pp. 20, 21 and in several other places: to avoid confusion of dash with minus, if IEEE rules allow it, maybe we can use bullets instead of dash, \item[$\bullet$] guarantees that the bullet is used, no matter what is the stylefile; I am not saying that a knowledgeable person will be eventually confused, but it may take some time to understand that this is not a minus, so a bullet will save some time and help understanding

Many thanks!

Vladik

Subject: Draft: P1788.1 Standard for Interval Arithmetic (Simplified)

Dear Colleagues,

I have attached a draft of the basic standard. IEEE did not like “Basic Standard”

so it is "(Simplified)”.

I would like to invite everybody for comments and suggestions.

Best regards,

Ned Nedialkov
