Re: A late question Re: P1788.1/M001.01: voting period begins

Good catch, I agree that my simple suggestion of calling it range will not work, since we may have a discontinuous function. However, I still agree with Baker's original comment that using the term "natural interval extension" to indicate the interval hull of the range may be confusing. I think that we need to change this term.

"Interval hull of the range" is too long, we need a shorter and easier-to-pronounce term.

I have some suggestions:

* range-based interval extension
* range-interval extension
* range extension

Maybe someone can come up with a better suggestion?

After pondering over the use of “natural interval extension” in the standard, I do not see
problems with this term and inconsistencies in the standard. True, this term has been
used to mean “replace reals by intervals and do interval operations”, but this is more about
interval evaluation rather than a mathematical definition.
If we simply use “range”, we miss the case when the function is discontinuous.
