[802.3_GEPOF] July GEPOF Study Group meeting

Colleagues:

Meeting Information:

The IEEE 802.3 Gigabit Ethernet Over Plastic Optical Fiber Study Group will be meeting during the IEEE 802 plenary session to be held the week of July 13th in San Diego, CA, USA.

The GEPOF Study Group meeting will begin Tuesday, July 15 at 0830.  During a plenary session, Study Group and Task Force meetings occur in parallel on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (morning).  We will meet as long as required during that time period to hear requested presentations and conduct any additional business.  The IEEE 802.3 Working Group meets Monday and Thursday afternoons.  The 802.3 web site (http://www.ieee802.org/3) includes more information about a typical plenary session.

Supporters of our proposed project are encouraged to attend the Thursday afternoon 802.3 working group meeting to support the project.

Registration and meeting details may be found at:  http://802world.org/plenary/future-plenary-sessions/ .

If you require a visa invitation letter, please make sure to request one promptly. Follow the instructions on the meeting registration Website.

Study Group Status:

Our Project Authorization Request (PAR), Criteria for Standards Development (CSD) and objectives will be considered by IEEE 802.3 for approval at the closing Working Group meeting on Thursday afternoon.  If approved by 802.3, the PAR and CSD will be considered by the IEEE 802 Executive Committee for approval at its closing meeting on Friday afternoon.  Our Working Group Chair has also submitted our PAR to NesCom for consideration during the August Standards Board meeting series.  Approval is required at all three levels to authorize developing an amendment to IEEE Std 802.3 for Gigabit Ethernet over Plastic Optical Fiber.

Call for Presentations:

During the July meeting, we can continue to work on objectives, and we can continue to evaluate possible technical proposals for the proposed project.  As a study group we will not be making any technology selections, such selections must wait until we have an approved project.

Requests for presentation time must be made at least a week before the meeting (anything time-stamped after midnight AOE on Monday, July 8, 2014 will only be heard with permission of the Study Group).  Please submit presentation requests to the Study Group Chair at bob.grow@xxxxxxxx, including a PDF digital copy of the presentation, name of presenter, names of any co-authors, employer and affiliation of presenter and co-authors, and requested time for the presentation.

Some Study Group participants may be new to IEEE 802.  All registered attendees at the meeting are welcome to participate, but we have some rules that have to be followed in presentations and discussions.

1.      Please make sure that there are no restrictive notices (e.g., copyright or confidentiality) in the presentations or in the request email.  (Also required for posting to the Study Group reflector.)

2.      Do not include product promotion in presentations.

3.      Do not discuss prices, division of markets or any other topics that are anti-competitive.  There is a presentation describing how we can discuss cost (not price) by IEEE counsel at http://www.ieee802.org/3/100GNGOPTX/public/may12/lindsay_01_0512_optx.pdf.

4.      Please feel free to contact me with any questions in advance of submission of your presentation.

I look forward to seeing you in San Diego in July.

Regards,

Bob
