Recent comments released to the press from ITU-R TG-1/8 attendees, =
including both Carl and Gadi remarks about "a LOT of "push-back" against
=

UWB in the ITU-R " as Carl put it, should make every voter think twice =
about his/her voting this week.
=20
Is your vote for a particular UWB proposal one which IEEE 802.15.3 can =
stand behind and defend at the FCC, NTIA, NIST, and other special =
interest group testing labs, (performance, rules compliance, and least
=
impact or interferrence to other services within the UWB band come to =
mind), and with wireless standards bodies outside the U.S.?
=20
Please choose wisely this week.
=20
Sincerely,
Mike McInnis

Hi,
=20
I was at the ITU-R TG-1/8 meeting and the last thing the participants =
cared about was the UWB signal type.
I would have to agree that 'pure fiction' is an EXTREMELY polite and =
diplomatic way to relate to this article.
If anything the 802.15.3a(both sides)/802.18 should put some joint =
effort to support UWB in ITU-R TG-1/8 since right now the opposition is
=
huge to any type of UWB (and they are not talking about some extra dBs =
but rather some extra tens of dBs)
=20
Yours,
Gadi Shor

I hate to be blunt, but I was at the ITU-R TG-1/8 meeting in Geneva
the week before last, and the story below is pure fiction, and I am
being EXTREMELY polite and diplomatic in my choice of terminology.
=20
The fact of the matter is that there is a LOT of "push-back" against
UWB in the ITU-R, with virtually ALL of the services with allocations
and entitlement to protection from interference from UWB and who
would be overlaid by UWB (as well as a number of Administrations)
presenting papers that show that the current limits for UWB are rather
grossly inadequate to provide the degree of protection to which they are
entitled (in many cases by the ITU Radio Regulations or existing ITU-R
Recommendations).
=20
Once again, I find this sort of posturing in the trade press in an =
effort to
"make hay" in the 802.15.3a process to be reprehensible.
