[802SEC] IEEE P802.3dg draft PAR and CSD response - Greater than 10 Mb/s Long-Reach Single Pair Ethernet Study Group

Dear EC members,

In support of subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE P802.3dg Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 100Mb/s Operation and Associated Power Delivery over a Single Balanced Pair of Conductors PAR for consideration at the March 2022 plenary.

Best regards,
  David

Draft PAR: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/22/ec-22-0017-00-00EC-draft-ieee-p802-3dg-par.pdf>
CSD responses: <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/22/ec-22-0018-00-00EC-draft-ieee-p802-3dg-csd.pdf>

[2] Explanatory technical background material:

Applications such as those used in automation and process control industries have begun the transition of legacy networks to Ethernet. A reduced number of conductors and interface components supporting greater than 10 Mb/s Ethernet will provide a basis for an optimized solution in these applications. Growth in traffic and new applications demand greater bandwidth. IEEE 802.3 does not currently support greater than 10 Mb/s over a single balanced pair of conductors longer than 40 m.

[3] Status of the development of the PAR:

The draft PAR and CSD responses are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the March 2022 plenary.

Since the submission deadline for the March 2022 occurs prior to the date of the March IEEE 802 EC meeting, I will pre-submit this draft PAR to NesCom on the understanding that:

[a] Any changes to the draft PAR text resulting from the Plenary will be promptly communicated to the NesCom Administrator.
[b] Should the IEEE 802.3 Working Group not approve the submission, it will be removed from the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee and NesCom agenda.
[c] Should the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee not approve the submission, it will be removed from the NesCom agenda.
