This is a big mistake. It unnecessarily pulls all the IEEE 754 exceptions into interval arithmetic. But 1788 is NOT developed on the base of IEEE 754. The Level 1 stuff, as you well know, is based on the real numbers with only one zero. -oo and +oo are only introduced there as a convenient way to denote unbounded intervals. Please point out to us all places in the text that you think are contaminated by 754 notions such as signed zero and exceptions. John Pryce
John,if you look for '754 conforming type' in the text for IEEE P1788 you may find such places yourself.
But let me remind you that I am the one who claims that IEEE 754 is not needed for the development of IEEE P1788. Its frequent citation there is at least an irritation of the reader. The text for the standard should be kept as simple as possible.
