In light of the SARS outbreak, many of you have been concerned about the 802.20 interim meeting planned for Singapore in May. On behalf of the 802.20 leadership I am informing you that the 802 Wireless Groups (802.11/15/16/18/19/20) have made arrangements to change the venue of the May meeting to the Dallas-Fort Worth Hyatt. This was a unanimous decision of the leadership. Below is the text prepared by Bob Heile on behalf of the wireless groups.
---------------------------- On a conference call Tuesday afternoon, April 1, among the Wireless Working Group Chairs, TAG Chairs and Paul Nikolich, we decided to postpone the Singapore meeting because of the continuing uncertainty associated with the war in Iraq, with SARS and with the increasing number of corporations restricting travel. We can do this without penalty if we reschedule the meeting to September 14 -19, 2003 in Singapore.
Meanwhile, we have secured the DFW Hyatt, where we had the March plenary, as the alternate location for the May Interim. The dates remain the same, May 11-16, 2003. We are still finalizing booking codes, so please do not book your rooms just yet. We will announce all of that later this week. The registration web page will be up early next week. The room rate is anticipated to be the same as it was in March. You will need to be responsible for rebooking your own travel. Many airlines are allowing substantial flexibility due to the war situation in Iraq so you may wish to mention this as the reason for the change.
For those of you who have already registered for Singapore, we will process a full refund of your registration fee shortly and take care canceling your hotel booking. We hope this change will afford us the opportunity to have a safe and productive meeting in Dallas.
