Hat on the ring
I would like to volunteer to the Communications committee chairmanship.
I am an Electronics Engineer with 25 years experience in the design,
teaching, and implementation of digital and analog electronics, mixed-
mode IC design, power design, and communication systems. I am a Senior
IEEE member and the Chief Engineer of a 2-yr old startup company (15
people and growing) that specializes in neural research
instrumentation (high channel-count neural data acquisition and
processing systems).
I was motivated to participate in this Standards Working Group for
personal reasons, as it would aim directly at one of the big issues I
see with most of our electronics. I see that the outcome of the UPAMD
standard, if widely adopted, would be a big benefit for society at
large (and the space behind my desk and entertainment center). The
existence of a standard way to power electronics would not only reduce
clutter in our lives but, as chipsets, IP cores, and/or software is
developed for it, would simplify our lives as engineers. For cost-
insensitive equipment, it would remove the need to concoct together
multiple power modules to achieve a reasonable design that does not
inconvenience the final user. While for cost-sensitive equipment, it
would allow us to reuse components while designing an optimized system.
Thanks,
Edgar Brown
