Educational material in support of the approved changes to the IEEE-SA Patent Policy
All,
I wanted to give an update on the progress of the development of
educational material in support of the approved changes to the IEEE-SA
Patent Policy. The PatCom core drafting committee, consisting of Don
Wright, Claire Topp, Michael Lindsay and myself, have been developing
these documents. In addition a number of the questions and answers in the
FAQ document are based on input received in response to the request Claire
sent out to PP-DIALOG a couple of weeks ago - thanks to everybody that
contributed.
The draft educational material consists of:
[1] Patent Slides for WG Meetings
[2] Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
[3] Tutorial slide set
[4] IEEE Standards Companion patent related clause
[5] Patent Letter of Assurance (LoA) Process Flowchart
We want to be sure that these materials are helpful to participants in the
IEEE-SA's standards development process. Accordingly, we are planning to
seek your input through the PP-DIALOG using the comment tool we used to
develop the policies. I expect the first draft of these documents will be
ready to be circulated to the PP-DIALOG reflector on or about 9th Feb. A
10 day period will be provided for review and comment, with the comment
period closing 20th Feb. After this comment period is complete, the core
drafting committee will meet to develop responses, and revise the draft
educational material as needed. It is hoped that the comments response,
and any updated documents, will then be circulated to PP-DIALOG in early
March in time for the PatCom meeting.
Please note that this activity is separate from the ProCom Ad Hoc on
Antitrust which I also hope to be able to give you an update on soon.
Regards,
