P1788 members: The one-week extension of the discussion period for this motion has ended, and the formal voting period has begun. Votes may be cast until the end of Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The motion is listed below. During the voting period, the motion is not subject to amendment. A registered Voting Member may vote "Yes" "No" "No," but propose an amendment that would cause the voter to vote "Yes." The proposed amendment shall include detailed wording and rationale. Such "No" votes on position papers are NOT motions to amend. The purpose is to influence other voters. Of course, anyone may make any statements they wish, but those are not votes. All votes on position papers should be public. The mechanism for voting is a message broadcast to <stds-1788@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>. The ideal vote is Subject: Motion P1788/M003.01_Set_of_reals YES (or NO) Body: YES (or NO and proposed changes) Name The Voting Tabulator shall count as a vote any message in which the intent is clear. Instructions for registering for the working group may be found at http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/wg1788Reg.html Information about working group motions and supporting documents can be found in the public and private areas of the P1788 web site, accessible from http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/ Please contact me (rbk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) if you need the user ID and password for the private area. A registered Voting Member may change her/his vote at any time during the voting period simply by broadcasting a fresh voting message. A position paper requires a "Yes" vote by 2/3 of the registered Voting Members to pass. A quorum is 2/3 of the registered Voting Members. If necessary to achieve a quorum, the Voting Tabulator may solicit further votes, in which case, all not-yet-voted registered Voting Members shall be solicited equally. The motion text is as follows: =============================================================== P1788 members (from John Pryce) As requested I circulate herewith version 4 (hopefully final) of Position Paper 13, "TEXT AND RATIONALE FOR MOTION 6: MULTI-FORMAT SUPPORT", on which the vote will be conducted. Also as requested by the Chair, here is a brief change-history. 2009 April 21. Original version of motion 6 circulated in plain text form. June 9. Following extended criticism and discussion, version 2 of plain text has a clearer statement of the motion, new "Overall aims" section, improved Definitions, and introduces the SRSF, SRMF, MRMF concepts. June 29. Typeset version produced as a Position Paper, mostly similar to previous plain text. July 14. Typeset version, revised, circulated as Position Paper PP013 and motion 6 formally re-submitted. Revisions with help from Arnold Neumaier, Ulrich Kulisch and others improve notation and make it consistent with Motion 5. Statement of motion simplified and made more precise. July 14 - August 11. Meaning of "interval mapping", "interval function" clarified. After comment by Vincent Lefevre, abstract/ concrete "floating-point format" renamed "number format" (so af- format, cf-format become an-format, cn-format). Other minor corrections. Vincent also proposes support for MRMF in "valid" mode be included in motion. Today Aug 11. In this final version I have modified what is said about MRMF support in the rationale, but have not included Vincent's proposed words in the motion. Instead, the Chair has suggested Vincent proposes a separate motion covering MRMF support. Best wishes John Pryce ================================================================ William: Please record this transaction in the minutes. Juergen: Please update the status on the web page. Also, please be sure that the current version (version 4, attached), is the one posted. Best regards to all, Ralph Baker Kearfott (vice chair, P-1788)
