There are valid arguments for both [-oo,+oo] and (-oo,+oo) notations,
even in the fixed context of intervals over the Reals.  It depends on
whether one uses a topological or representational view.

In the document we should use a uniform convention, and when we denote
an interval as supported by the standard, we should use []-notation in
all cases.  However, the ()-notation (or (] or [) as the case may be)
is still useful when denoting *mathematical* intervals, as in the exact
ranges or domains of function definitions.  The corresponding figures
or text would indicate the deliberate use of a different notation.
