Re: [802SEC] July waiver for industry connection attendees

My request is a waiver for them to attend only the IC meeting, for which I have only requested one slot on Tuesday evening.

Cheers,

Glenn.

Hi Glenn,

I didn't see a response to the question on when and how long you expect to be meeting (which impacts the cost of these additional attendees). My impression from another email is that it will be a single meeting on Tuesday evening (and therefore no F&B costs). Is that correct?

Pat

Folks,

My intention is that this is a one-off offer to waive the meeting fees for attendees who would not normally attend an 802 plenary, so that they can attend the inaugural IC meeting.

Going forward, when the IC meetings are held at 802 plenaries or interims, I will not be asking for such a  blanket request.

Cheers,

Glenn.

Hello all,

If this is a one-off,  then I'm happy to waive the fees.   If this is a regular meeting,  then I think
a separate meeting fee (&registration) should be established that represents the cost of running
that part of the meeting.

I support Glenn's proposal, limited to the July plenary.

Procedurally, I think this can fall under "Invited (by members of the EC) guests who attend meetings for a specific purpose that is of value to general attendees (e.g. to provide a tutorial presentation) should be exempt from the meeting fee" [CG2.2(2)], presuming that Glenn makes an invitation.

I would argue that the specific purpose is of value to general attendees. Goals of the IC are to "assess... emerging requirements for IEEE 802 wireless and higher-layer communication infrastructures" and "identify commonalities, gaps, and trends not currently addressed by IEEE 802 standards and projects." This suggests reaching out beyond our usual constituency to potential outside users of our technologies. Those folks may not be interested in creating 802 standards at this time, but they can be valuable to 802 in helping to identify new market needs.

In order to reach out, I suspect that the IC will probably be meeting outside of 802 sessions in the future, but a one-time incubation at a plenary would be a good start.

Roger

Glenn,

I am not sure of the parameters either.

IF we are sponsoring the IC, then I would expect it to be just another subset of the 802 meetings, and the meeting fee would apply.

We do not do a percentage based on the number of hours you attend, so I do not see a clear means to address the ask.

Regrettably,

Jon

Hi Glenn,

I'd like to understand the parameters on this.

When do you expect the new group to meet at the July plenary?

"I wanted to keep it open for this meeting to encourage new participation" implies that you don't expect to request this for future meetings. Is that correct?

Pat

Colleagues,

At the July plenary, we would like to have a kick off for the new Industry Connections activity:

IC17-001-01 IEEE 802 Network Enhancements for the Next Decade

http://standards.ieee.org/about/sasb/iccom/IC17-001-01_IE.pdf

To encourage non-802 attendees, I would like to request a waiver for new attendees that will _only_ attend for the Industry Connections activity.

It is my expectation that the total requesting this will be less than 5, but I wanted to keep it open for this meeting to encourage new participation.

Let me know if you see any issues with this.

Cheers,

Glenn.
