RE: IEEE p2030.1

Thanks for bringing this back to the goal.

My inquiry for the Smart Grid interface was to see if is going to be
mandated in the near future and would the UPAMD be required to comply. We
certainly could be lumped into the "appliance" category and be required to
have load shedding capabilities.

I hope this is not true as it would complicate the issue. We just need to
know if we can ignore it.

The goal is still to service >10W to 130W portable devices, safely, with a
common connector, common communication, and common power delivery (control?)
mechanism.

Higher power and dumb low power have been group inputs by major users. How
to accommodate them is still in development.

My intention to propose the study group was for laptop computer (device with
battery) in the beginning. Originally, when I discussed with Bob about this
scope, we think that for other devices that are in the similar power range,
we may leave it to extension. In such way, we can have a short success and
then expand the scope gradually, instead of attacking a large problem and
drag the workgroup too long. We just finished the 754-2008 after 8 long
years...

Yeah. I think this may be going a bit far. More an issue for IEEE-1823b.

However, I think that UPAMD still should apply to all mid-power devices(not
just laptops) which I think will reduce waste further. If I never see
another Wall Wart with barrel connector it will be too soon.
